When it comes to interviewing for a job, there are certain basic questions that are repeatedly asked. So, you would definitely do well if you knew what the questions were and how to answer them in order to get selected. Here is a list of common job interview questions and some possible answers.
1. Tell me about yourself.
This is like the most important and most common question in job interviews. Here you have to make a summary of your education and achievements. Be sure to think on your feet and not mug up the answers beforehand which can make your delivery sound mechanical. Be modest and change the sentence structure so that all of them do not stand with I… and make your answer sound extremely redundant. Be sure to add some unique traits of your personality when you describe yourself. Time yourself and see that the description does not exceed 2 minutes.
2. Tell me about your family.
This is yet another common question. Here make it a point to keep it short. Do not delve into the complexities of the relationships you share with each member of your family. The answer should consist of 4-5 lines and you can dedicate one line to each family member.
3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
This question seeks to know how confident you are that you will be selected by the company that you are interviewing for. This also aims to understand whether you have any goals and aspirations or not. The key to nailing this question is being specific like saying- ” I aim to occupy a prestigious position in your company so that I can contribute to the company’s growth and development.” You can also say that you see yourself as more financially independent, sagacious and contented.
4. What is success according to you?
This is again a question that brings out something that you believe in. This shows how desperate you are to succeed and persevere. This also shows what things you hold dear and what will help motivate you to achieve all that you want.
The most important thing to always think about, is understanding what this question gives you an opportunity to showcase about yourself, and how this question let’s you better connect with your interviewer. At the end of the day, that’s what an interview is all about, letting you an the interviewer see if you would be a good fit at the company!
